Born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles, David Strick has worked as an editorial, advertising and corporate photographer for such clients as Paramount Studios, The Walt Disney Company, The Gap, Sempra Energy, LinkedIn, Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment Time, Life, Esquire, Newsweek, Vanity Fair, Fortune, Forbes, Business Week, New York Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated, The New York Times Magazine, The WB Network, Universal Studios, Cedars-Sinai Medical Group, Simon & Schuster, Time Warner Inc., Amgen, and the Hughes Corporation.
His interest in the entertainment world has led him to originate documentary behind-the-scenes print and web features for major media companies, including eleven years of producing a monthly photo column for Premiere Magazine entitled “David Strick’s Hollywood,” 2 ½ years of originating and photographing a web/print feature called “David Strick’s Hollywood Backlot” for the Los Angeles Times, and a web/print feature for The Hollywood Reporter, entitled “David Strick’s Hollywood.”
His work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution; the Cooper-Hewitt Museum; the Cincinnati Art Museum; The Denver Art Museum; the Houston Foto Fest; the Photographic Resource Center in Boston; the “Visa pour l’image” photo festival in Perpignan, France; the Cedro 26 Gallery in Rome, Italy; and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. His works are in the collections of the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Texas, The George Eastman House Rochester, New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, The Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences, Los Angeles, and numerous private collections.
He is the author of the book “Our Hollywood” (Atlantic Monthly Press), and his photographs have won awards in the professional publications Communication Arts, American Photography, Society of Publication Designers and Graphis.
He has taught at Art Center College of Design, lectured at UCLA Extension, and the Photographic Resource Center at Boston University. He has served on the board of APA/Editorial Photographers, and as an honorary member of the Society of Motion Picture Still Photographers.
